Wuhan is not a very fun city, but here is what I found without looking at all.

Junyi Hotel ¾ýÒæ±ö¹Ý in Hankou on Qiao kou lu ÇÅ¿Ú· has everything a guy could want. The hotel's rooms are not too expensive (I paid 148 after the discount). There is KTV, Sauna, and a barbershop on the premises. There are SW on the street outside, as well as a bunch of nicer restaurants.

I was there two times. Once for my first two nights in Wuhan, and then again right before I left town. The first night I wanted a massage. The Sauna looked like it would be cheaper, so I went in. The girl they brought was thin and sexy, like I like. So, when she asked for 500, I gave in. She also offered another girl for 800. Service was fine, but I was not really in the mood.

The other time I just called the barbershop for a massage in my room. The girl they sent up was sort of plumpy (but for a chinese girl that doesn't mean much... she was not fat). Anyway, her massage was very effective and when she said 500, I said 300 and she said ok.

300 is what the taxi drver told me was the going rate. I didn't search too much, but like all cities in china, there are a lot of opportunities.

By the way, I am white, but speak chinese. I am pretty sure that the girls there do not speak any English.

The weather was cold and very wet. Like New York at this time of year.

Asked about girls from som of the hotel staff and was told nothing in hotel. Maybe they could call someone but the hotel management did not approve.

If the weather had been better I may have done the stroll to see for myself.

Obviously a 5 star is not the place. next time I will stay in a lower hotel and hope for the best. Off to Hong Kong.

Next stop Wuham, Hubei Province 10-22-03. Sorry I'm so late posting this.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Riverside. This is another very nice, newer, four star hotel but again it?s far from the main part of town.

Another long day and did not get to the hotel tell 11:00 PM. Everyone was tired so I struck out on my own. Walked out of the hotel and down to the street and looked around but couldn?t see any activity at all. This place was dead, like I said it was far from the main part of town. I went back to the hotel and tried to inquire from the doorman about where to go but he did not speak English. While talking to him the girl at the front counter saw I was having trouble and came over to help. Yea right, I?m going to ask her where to go to get laid. I told her I was looking for a nightclub. She wrote down something and walked me outside to get a cab. She told the driver where I wanted to go and off we went.

Wuhan is not a pleasant city to visit or work in. It's not a tourist area. The air has a lot of soot and dust from industry and road construction, and walking around briskly made my lungs hurt after awhile. When I was there in late May, it was upper 20'sC in the evening and no breeze, so the air was thick. I'm told that it can rise to about 41C in the summer, and is called "The Oven".

SIGHTS: The main attraction is six-storey "Yellow Crane Tower". I did not see it, but colleagues said it is on par with any one of the six or more towers you'll find in Hangzhou, and Hangzhou is much more pleasant and clean. Wuhan's East Lake is just a lake, and it costs money to walk around it.

FOOD: I had some very good inexpensive (20RMB with beer) meals with my Chinese and Chinese-American colleauges, but the menus were entirely in Chinese. If you don't read Chinese, ask for specific dishes with the help of the guidebook, eat in the hotel, or find one of those huge cafeteria places where you can point at what you want.

PUNTER OPTIONS: I'm sure it can be found all over if you speak Chinese. Here's what I found without knowing a shread of Chinese:

1. I found an SW outside Shangri-la on Jian She Da Dao just outside the Shangri-la who would go to my room for 300RMB, if I read her fingers correctly. I don't know what was on offer but I assume a quick FS and she leaves. She was maybe late 20s and a 6. I did not try her as I was looking for a body massage (only) before bed; I did find that around the corner for 30RMB 1 hour. It wasn't great, but helped me relax. I did not see any SW there the next evening.

2. I found what appeared to be a locals’ brothel area near Shangri-la Hotel, less than 10 minutes away when walking. Exit Shangri-la on the Jian She Da Dao side and turn left. At the first side street turn left – you’ll see an island forcing turns, and tall power line towers along this street. At the T, turn right and stay on right side. In a short while you’ll see a number of shops with girls sitting on couches making eye contact, except for the bored ones. They were open for business as I walked by at 20.25.

When I was walking by one at 22.30 (this time without colleagues ;-) ), a girl pounded on the door frame to get my attention. She was probably 20 yo and a 5 in appearance, grinning in a naughty way. She made an offer for 300RMB. I'm guessing it would be a quick FS in a somewhat squalid room.

Insomnia ruled, so around 5AM I went back to see about morning wood, but they were closed tight with chastity belts in place (the storefronts, I mean).

This was a local's place, but then there are very few Western visitors in Wuhan.

3. I found another probable brothel strip while taking a very long walk from Shangri-la to Wuhan Square using an out-of-the-way route. I don’t have good maps to confirm this, and I did not see street signs, but from the map I'm pretty sure it was on Jie Fang Da Dao (my friends said it meant “Liberation Road” which fits). It was on the side nearest Shangri-la, about a quarter mile past Xiang Jian Road as you walk towards Tai Bei Lu, but I'm guessing on distance. There were 6-12 storefronts with girls sitting on couches apparently waiting for customers, though I did not inquire since I was with work colleagues. Time was about 21.15.

4. Following up ReallyaNiceGuy’s report on Zhang Liao Mei, I called her to ask her to visit my hotel, using Chinese I pieced together to to ask the question and tell her were I was, and to suggest a time:

Wo men ke yi zai jiu dian jian mian (can you meet me at my hotel)
Shan ger li la luguan (Shangri-la hotel)
(ren)fang yi qi san si (room number 1734)
jiu dian san shi fen (9:30)

I know she understood, but I did not understand her answer. I asked a Chinese resident to call for me and translate, and he said she was busy until after midnight. Later a Singapore-Chinese friend called her for me and I learned that she wanted 1000 RMB to visit the hotel but would come after midnight. ReallyaNiceGuy said he paid 500RMB for “eat-in” service, but she would not budge on the price, so I passed on the offer. Possibly if I went to where she was working I could have got a better "eat-in" rate.

No action in hotel. The bar in the lobby is wide open with no area for romance.

I had no action in or around the hotel. Was only there one night before going back to KMG where I have more than ample enjoyment.

I will be back in Wuhan sometime during week of Sept. 22. I plan on staying at Lake View Garden Hotel. I am told this is a 4 star on the edge of the lake.

A brief report on my fun in Wuhan. I stayed at the Yangste Hotel; didn't have time to do much in the way of recon around the area.

The last night I was there, my local contact took me to a street with a cluster of KTVs (Wuhan Gate or Gateway, IIRC). The girls there are just "singers" 500 RMB covered drinks for three guys and two girls (and their fee) for 3-4 hours.

There are not many foreigners in Wuhan, and not many Chinese people here speak English. The smaller hotels apparently do not have much, but one large hotel near the square offers excellent facilities. The menu of choices is prominently displayed. They list a VIP room at 368 RMB for 90 minutes, but it was not available. I chose a lesser option, but made it clear I had more in mind than just a massage. After entering the designated room, an 18-year-old young lady, slender with small breasts, joined me. She was very sweet, close to a GFE. Last evening around 9:00 I walked around Jiefang Dadao in Hankou not far south of the Number Two Yangtze (Changjiang) Bridge, seeing more than a dozen clustered in this area. This cheap Hanghai Binguan was listed in Lonely Planet. Room was clean and staff were friendly and polite. 125rmb for a single with bath. Convenient to Wuchang Station but not a nice area.

There are also several pink light barbershops on the far side of the road.

This afternoon about 4:00 I again visited the BBS area in Hankou on Jiefang Dadao a few hundred yards south of Huangpu Dajie, the road leading to Changjiang Bridge Number 2. Walking north on the west side of Jiefang Dadao, I was attracted to the second BBS I encountered and stepped inside. Two girls were sitting near the door and ushered me inside. Since I had previously scouted this area, the characteristic pinks lights visible at night were not necessary to guide me. Prices are a bit cheaper in Wuhan than most other cities.

I went to Wuhan this past week and stayed at the Novotel Hotel. I didn't get much information from this baord about opportunities there, so I had collage girl I know that's visiting her parents for the Chinese New Year vacation. I usually see her in Guangzhou, where I live.

But, for future visits, if anyone stays in or near the Novotel, if you walk out the front door, turn right, go the the first traffic light (about 150 feet away), and turn left, there are at least 6 or 7 BBS places on both sides of the street. On a recent trip to Wuhan, I stayed at the Holiday Inn. The Holiday is reasonably priced ($50 US) and has a massage parlor in the hotel, but not associated with the hotel. Hence, I guess you can’t ***** if you get poor service. I tried the in-room massage option for 430 RMB, and of course the girl does her best to sell additional services. I insisted that I would not pay more than 300 RMB in Wuhan, so I had to settle for a massage with an oil HJ. And, since the massage parlor is not associated with the Holiday Inn, I didn’t bother to ***** regarding the poor service.

The following night, I met a free-lancer in the lobby and had a great time for 350 RMB. Attractive, nice body, and very experienced in her trade, BBBJ and CFS. I was in Wuhan last week, a city that is full of dust and little charm. Stayed at the Best Western Mayflower Hotel in WuChang. I booked it thru Ctrip.com, so it was about 558 yuan a night at this five star joint. Turns out, that is how much the hotel sauna charges for FS as well. The sauna was located on the 5th floor, it had all the usual routines. I think they had about a dozen or so girls. Most with decent figure, say 8-9ish. Looks is probably too subjective for me to rate. Both providers did a pretty good job. If you wanted in your room, the charge would have been 700 yuan. All in all, not a bad place.

Many thanks to Didipod for the informative post. It should surprise no one that a sister city of Wuhan is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. (I intend no slight to all Pittsburgh natives.) At the same time, I do feel a need to come to the defense of my adopted city. There are good times to be had in Wuhan.

Recently on an afternoon I had occasion to visit a cluster of BBS in Wuchang that lies about 100 meters north of the intersection of Zhuo Dao Quan Bei Lu and Luo Yu Road. The cluster of three BBS sits on the west side of Zhuo Dao Quan Bei Lu facing the East Lake. The northernmost of the three had three or four fairly unattractive young ladies, and the asking price was 300 RMB (no BJ). After that non-starter I almost called it a day, but a colleague was accompanying me. He was eager to have another try, so went to the middle of the three. It was meant in a facetious tone. A lot of Chinese people will tell me some price that is 4 or 5 times the local price, as if I don't have sense enough to ask a taxi driver the prices. (Taxi drivers are good for that. They seem to know the price of sex everywhere and at every price level.)

If you think about it: If a girl stays in the business about 6 months and has, say a total of 150 working days (assuming that she is off for 5 days per months) at the average of 1.5 customers per day, that is a total of 225 customers total. If there's a grimier, grittier city, with even ruder people than Wuhan in China, I don't want to see it. But I'd accept nominations for other cities in this class. Nevertheless, some expats I've spoken to who've actually lived there for a spell seem to like it. But for me, it has all the charm of East St. Louis, Detroit, and Newark combined. It's officially my 193rd favorite city, right behind Tirane, Albania and Mogadishu.

I had accepted an invitation to come up and speak to a bunch of doc's about tropical disease management; silly me for failing to look into this city first.

I can confirm, however, that the Hunan Square area of Wuchang is a hopping place. It's ringed by KTV establishments, especially close to the NE side, near the Hongshan hotel, extending across the north side of the square.

On the NW side you have the White Rose, which is actually a nice place; just outside the gate of the cordon sanitaire for the White Rose is a 300m strip of greenery running south.

It is this strip where can be found at least a reinforced company-sized unit of incredibly aggressive streetwalkers, operating in 3-woman fire teams. Alas, they all appear to be rather long-in-the-tooth, some actually pushing forty. A MILF experience every once in a great while is fine, but not if Mom looks as if she's been pounding rivets at Wuhan Steelworks all day.

Crossing the boulevard to the square, -which is actually a very nice public park area, with thousands thronging after dark, I copped a squat to sit and watch. Alackday and fuck my luck, but a platoon of these women braved 6 lanes of busy traffic to rush over and shell me with their commercial offerings.

I will point out that none of the 'civilians' lifted a finger to help, to shame the women back across the street and into the bushes. Nope, I was apparently rich entertainment value. I had hoped some old bag, -a loyal party member, would run up and tell the girls to go back to their work units and do self criticism, or something like that. Nothing doing, if anything, the crowd called out with encouragement for the girls, English tips, what-have-you.

Continuing to Surveill, I noticed a bike lane running parallel on that side of the street. Chinese in cars were stopping to look over the wares, make their selection, and depart. The lesson for me here is that there is a slice of the male population in Wuhan preferring their meat well-seasoned, so-to-speak.

Adding local color to the scene were a number of obvious pimp/protector types hanging around; the command & staff element, no doubt. I cannot imagine that this would be a job I'd even think about trying out for.

Still, Hunan square in Wuchang is hopping. It's worth a look at night, before the weather turns cold, I suppose.

Quality was quite acceptable IMHO. Not 5 star Dongguan KTV model types but way above the long in the tooth SW reported by Burma Bob which I can confirm we have seen there on many occasions.

As I now have continuous biz trips to this area of Wuchang, I will try to get out, scout the action and post some reports. Wuhan is definitely not monger paradise, but I have not found it as bad as Burma Bob reports. Been there about 6 times over the past year and been to some KTV's and saunas where the service is acceptable but not great so did not post. Was in Wuhan last week for business and got the opportunity to finally checkout the scene a little. Stayed in the New Seasky Hotel, a newer 1-year-old 3 star hotel in Wuchang near Wuhan University and Eastlake. Got a 1-bedroom suite for Rmb350 so we could have business meetings during the day and my colleague got a regular room for Rmb250. The NSH hotel is a short 5-minute walk to the Square that we checked out our first night to see the action in the Bar Under The Square. Got there around 9 p. M. On a Monday night. Unfortunately, there was a flower festival on the square with families and couples all about and the Bar was closed with a sign that said in Chinese "Temporarily Closed. " I guess the idea of hotties coming and going out of the bar with customers with families all about wasn't such a good idea to the local powers! Damn, the girls in the Bar had looked so hot during our last trip there about 2 months ago.

Not wanting to go back to our rooms empty handed, we headed just over the Yangtse River (about a 15 minute cab ride for under rmb20) to the Soho Bar, which is supposed to be the new hot spot for finding semi-pros and freebies. Arrived around 10: 30 pm. The place was packed, music was loud and hotties all over the place. We could even check them out outside the Bar as many of them we're coming out to talk on their cell phones. Unfortunately, the place was so packed we could not get a seat. Definitely will go back to check this place out our next trip, but we were told we will need to arrive before 9 p. M. To get a seat.

So off we went across the street to the strip of bars that run along the side of the park right next to the Yangtse River. Went in to the first one on the left hand side across the street from Soho Bar and the place was also hopping. Literally packed with just the overflow crowd from Soho. Sat down to order drinks and while we were deciding whether to just order a round of beers at about rmb30 per beer or take the 2 six packs special at Rmb 200, a cute slender Chinese girl with legs long enough to qualify for "ladders to heaven" hops onto the mini stage, more like a square stone bench, and proceeds to bump, grind and thrust her tush into our faces. Definitely helped close the deal for the 2 six pack special! Too bad the dancers only danced 1 song every ½ hour or so. But all the cute female customers dancing all around almost made up for not having the half naked dancers shaking it not more than 3 feet away form us!

Well, 2 and ½ hours later and 10 beers later, the 2 of us we're felling no pain. Sent the last 2 beers over to two hotties (around late 20's to early 30"s and about 6 to 7's on 10 point scale) dancing at a table in front of us. Guess that doesn't happen much in Wuhan as they asked the waiter who sent them, then looked our way with huge smiles on their faces and proceeded to come over to toast us with their new beers. They then put on some special dance moves for us, now that they knew they had an audience. Too soon, it was closing time, so we go back out to the street and the girls follow us, but they hang back a bit to see if we come back to get them. I turn to go back to get them, but my friend says we can do better back at the Square and I agree to go along with him. Bad mistake - 2 in the hand (and probably freebies at that! ) versus none in the bush. Guess my judgment was a bit impaired by the beers! By the time we get back to the square, there are only about 5 SW's left and the quality was as bad as reported in prior posts, 3 to 4 quality level with high mileage.

So, back we go the hotel, empty handed! Then my colleague drunkenly pushes the 8th floor elevator button and stumbles out the door to the 24-hour massage center. The massage center is no bigger than my suite and not a massage girl in sight. So my colleague tells the attendant to send 2 massage girls up to his room for us to check out. 10 minutes latter, 2 girls, both about 7's show up. Definitely not massage girls for anything other than our xiao diddis! (Found out latter that this massage center is really not a real massage service like on the 2nd floor of the hotel but actually an an out call service where not many, if any, girls actually wait around there for customers.) I was in Wuhan before Christmas and stayed at Kingdom Hotel-350 Youth Road in Hankou. I went to the Kai Yue Xiu Xian Zhong Xin-Sauna and massage place-lots of neon on the front. It is very easy to find (about a 5 to 8 minute walk from lobby of hotel), go out the lobby door of the hotel to the right, turn right at the first intersection, make another right at the first street you come to and it will be on your left about 500m down that street. The name of the sauna is in Pinyin and also has Massage in English on the front of the building. You will notice at least 2 other sauna places on your way to this 1. I asked for a name card, but they said none were available.

Went in, massage was quoted at 188, shower massage with ‘help’ was 300 for normal room and 400 for VIP room. Not much of a sauna place, loose the clothes then head upstairs-as they told you, no need to shower the lady will do that for you. I looked at a normal room-old and moldy with no heat, so I opted for the VIP room with heat. All rooms have TV, bed and shower area with massage table. I’m sure they could have provided a line up but it wasn’t necessary. When asked what I wanted I said young and slim and within 2 minutes a pretty (at least a 7) 20 year old from Heilongjiang (#98) was at the door.

Strip and go to the shower for the shower massage. It was ok, but nothing special since the temp of the room was about 10 degrees. OK, my first night here was a bust. Disappointing given my pretty good time in BJ the last 3 nights. Expensive, but good experiences. Your statement above is just not true. You should not give newbies a false sense of security. Scams can happen anywhere in China if you are not careful. Some can be even worse than this one. We must always be vigilant.

Your second statement is very bad advice. Starting a fight with the guys may have resulted in getting the shit kicked out of him at the least. It is always best to pay (you may try to negotiate down some), but avoid confrontation and just chalk it up to bad luck.

Good advice has been posted before. My favorites are:

1) Never follow touts
2) If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
3) If the place looks even a little bit dodgey, split.
4) Only carry enough money in your pocket that you are willing to spend or lose.

One thing to keep in mind is Chinese police is bought in most cases.

Finally got going in Wuhan after a few days of meetings and work, I got the itch. I took a stroll outside of the Shangri La Hotel Wuhan at 10:00pm yesterday. But before I left the area I thought I have my back scrubbed. The attendant using a hand towel rubs off all the dead skin. Wow, it was really soothing. Then they offer to do the front too. Not too excited about having it done by a male attendant, but what the heck, when in Rome do what the Romans do!

After I exit the shower area, I was given those disposable sleeping garment (if you can call it that) I’m large and I look like a happy Buddha walking up those stairs into another part of the spa. For 1400 to 2900 RMB I could be in any Macau sauna with a tall and beautiful Northeastern girl. We are talking about Wuhan, right? Of course it's not worth it. I'd say 800 to 1000 is more like it if it's the classiest place in Wuhan.

Just returned from Wuhan, stayed at the Holiday Inn Riverside. Walk into the health spa/sauna in the first floor and the madam there will approach you with a menu - infact on checking in the little key folders that registration gives you has the spa info. FS in your room is 600 all inclusive for 90 mins. On site selection is limited but was good that day. Madam also has pictures on her cell. A good no hassles fun.

About four blocks behind (and over one or two) the Howard Johnson is a hotel with a Chinese name (sorry can't remember but you see it). Attached to it towards the back of the small parking lot is a sauna. This was a couple of years ago but I assume it's still the same. Not much English spoken but that was not a problem. Not a large selection of girls but the one I had was hot, hot, hot, and did everything. Rooms are nothing to write home about but a good time was had for 400 Y plus tip. Will repeat next tie in Wuhan.

The saying goes that you can always find pretty girls from all over China. Every province has their good, bad, pretty and ugly girls. However, I must admit that I've had a big weakness of Hubei girls. For some odd reason, I find Hubei girls to be extremely hot. This if of course a generalization. Exactly, the places are in old low-story houses of the type where the "rooms" are only separated by sheets. You pay 30 RMB for a maximum of 30 mins of massage + HJ and the 30 RMB includes the price for the handjob. If you take too long to cum, the mamasan will yell from the entrance that the time is up and to hurry up and you can choose to leave and pay 30 RMB or stay in which case the price rises by another 30 RMB.

As I wrote, if you consider a handjob sex (which I do), the 5 US Dollar price is approximately right, since 30 RMB was the standard price I was quoted in Wuhan. Strangely enough I also went to a BBS across the street from one of the main gates of Wuhan University, price was 150 RMB. Pretty weird to have such open display of prostitution in China right across from the gates of a famous university. Possibly in the ultimate irony there even was a large Mao statue close to the gate, I don't remember so clearly. Was in Wuhan last week, and slept in Novotel Xin Hua.
