Charles Pooter It's Ouanaminthe (Juana Mendes to Dominicans) and it is an absolute shithole. The only reason it is much travelled is for the through traffic. No-one goes there for the town itself except for crooks involved in people trafficking, drugs and smuggling, which makes it one of the most dangerous places as well.

It is probably the last place you want to visit in Haiti. Other places have modern civilised zones or decaying fragments of former French Colonial elegance, and rural places might have some primitive charm and traditional culture, but Ouanaminthe has just sprung up on the back of the cross-border trade with miles and miles of cheap block buildings and shanty shacks.
Enjoy!

Jorge Jetson Caribe Tours I believe has a regular scheduled bus service between Santo Domingo and Port-au-Prince, http://caribetours.com.do/index.php/viajes/get_travel

Jaosousa Southwest of the DR is the border town Pedernales. Do a search in youtube and there are numerous videos. Haitian-Dominican commerce at that Border. Haitian boats dock close to there to drop off goods bound for the DR and get Dominican goods for Haiti. There are photos of those boats and I believe you can pay to take one as it goes further along the coast of Haiti. I have not made it to Pedernales yet. Also beaches there.
