    Cruise to Havana

This is not a mongering report, but some of the information may be useful to mongers.

My brother, nephew, and I went on a cruise to Havana so my brother, who is 87, could fulfill his wish to see the old cars. We arrived Wednesday afternoon and went on a bus tour arranged through the cruise line. One of the stops was at a park that looks like a large parking lot. There were some taxi drivers there, and I arranged for one to take us on a tour in his old Cadillac the next day.

Wednesday night, my nephew and I walked around Old Havana across from the pier where the ship docked. There were some ladies on the streets that were available, but I didn't see any that I couldn't do without.

I had 24 gifts bags of toiletries that I had assembled (photo attached) to give to the locals when we went with the taxi driver. I put the gift bags in two larger bags, 9 in one and 15 in the other. When I got to customs, they wanted to know what I had in the bags. I showed them and they said I could take the smaller bag, with nine bags, but I had to take the other one back to the ship. They also said I could take the larger one later. I had to fill out a customs form. The taxi driver showed us parts of Havana and took us to a university to pass out the gifts bags. Everyone was very happy to receive the gifts. When we went back to the ship, my brother and nephew didn't want to go anywhere else, but I wanted to get the other bag of gifts. When I got to customs, they wanted to know what I had. I showed them, but someone recognized that I had taken the other bag earlier, and looked through the forms and found the one I had filled out. They told me I could not take any more. I asked about them telling me I could take it out later. They said no more that day. We were leaving that evening. I asked if another person could take the bag out. They said yes but with only 6 of the gift bags. I went back to the ship and asked my nephew to take 6 gift bags through customs. My brother can't walk any distance, so he could not help. When my nephew took out the same bag that I had taken out, they did not question him. The taxi driver and I went back to the university and distributed the six bags. When I returned to the ship, my nephew suggested we each take four bags and go to Old Havana. When we went through customs, they did not question him, but asked me if I had perfume in the bags. The customs people obviously can make their own rules. The taxi driver said they are rude with most people. The people checking passports were very friendly and didn't ask any questions.

Maybe the customs people at the airport are more friendly. If not, I guess they will take what they want since you can't take anything back to the airplane.

Some observations: The Cuban people are super nice. I think the ladies are not as pretty as the ladies from Medellin, but I saw some attractive ladies. During the daytime, I saw very few people walking. Even in October, it is hot and the humidity is high.

I may return, on an airplane. There is a curiosity inside me that wants to experience more.

Far from Casanova. If anyone is Casanova its you! You know I admired your reports and anxiously awaited for the upcoming reports. I just wanted to do things differently this time, and didn't care if I had someone in the bed. It turned out to be amazing experience. Honestly, I learned, it just takes little effort, and you can have semi pro or non pro fairly easily.

My last trips I was doing the usual, Malecon, Don, Fantaxy, capri etc. And getting screwed with high priced. I learned a valuable lesson talking to a security guy at Melia Hotel, we struck an hour long conversation and he filled me in, basically he said 25 CUC should get a fine girl.

In case I do what upscale restaurant do you recommend taking her?
The restaurant I like is inside the Habana Libre (Tryp) hotel. Its called Bucanero close to the Reception area. They have good Mahi Mahi and the cost is around 11 CUC, fresh shrimp cocktail 6 cuc and decent selection of Red Wine. They have chicken breast Stuffed with lobster for 18 cuc, all of them are my favorite. We had Mahi Mahi, some cocktail, and one or two bottles of wine (didn't pay attention) and the cost for two person was around 60 CUC, this was really shoving wine like drinking water. Its very quiet and private, nice surrounding.

My another favorite is Restaurant Sierra Maestra (same hotel as above), its on top floor with panoramic view and nice food.

The Cubans don't like spicy food, I had a rare girl she loved spicy food and we went to Buena Vista in the old tourist town, 2 person around 90 CUC. I would stay away from this place unless they are into spicy food, which I doubt highly.

Obviously we all know Floridita (Hemingway hangout) its a lively place and very light snack food isn't bad, if you are in the mood to listen to some music have few cocktail and light food this is good place to break the ice. The price isn't bad 2 person for a drink and light snack 20 Cuc. I sometime start here get into the mood, walk and talk around central park and have dinner at other place and go home.

All of the above for a regular date, otherwise don't waste your money on them, stock up on a case of Cristal, gums, take with you big jar of mixed nuts and you are golden.

Also, if you are eating alone there are some nice Paladar across the same hotel.

Mondo. Looks like you had a great time and liked Fantaxy, I didn't get to go there this trip, I had my hands full.

Anyway, quick feedback. I stayed near Habana Libre, I got a 2 bedroom apartment, and I am glad I did, I hate walking or negotiating for the taxis. This location served me well. I met some 9's and 8's at upscale coffee shop at Habana libre hotel and at LaRampa Cafeterina. I was waiting for a local Cuban businessman to show up and having a coke, next to my table met a half Ukrainian and half Cuban, she was 20 and beautiful. We just spoke briefly and before she was leaving I casually asked her to have dinner with me at an upscale place, she agreed and I asked her to meet me at 6 pm at the same place. I showed up at 6 pm and past 6 pm I thought to myself it was too good to be true, guess what? At 6:05 she shows up, dressed to kill and hair done. We went to the dinner at an upscale place and had a bottle of red wine, and seafood. Afterwards, I asked her to come to my place and have a chat, she agreed. We chatted for a while and did other things. Ahem. After few hours later, I gave her a gift of LED bluetooth Speaker, she loved it. I than gave her 100 CUC as a gift, she politely refused, and gave me a dirty look as if I was thinking she was a pro.

    BTW, you can speak Spanish?
I speak very little Spanish, I would say 5-10%. I learned basic greetings, and common everyday phrases, IE: how much? Food, money, directions, etc. What I learned can be learned very easily in a week. I am really good with offline google translations. If you do use google offline Spanish pack, do yourselves a favor and put your phone in Airplane mode and no WiFi and make sure it works and you have a working handle on it and play with the settings and save the common phrases. It is fun and pretty good.

Also, use app called maps. Me (google map does not work in Cuba) and download Cuba map before going, and save in favorite all the spots mentioned here, this will save you time and you can see visually how far things are.

Another great tip I would recommend, I know its bit cheesy but its fun and you will have knowledge of how Havana is set up geographically along with getting educated is to buy ticket for 10 cuc all day pass for hop on hop off bus, you can catch the bus at any stop and pay the driver 10 CUC directly. You will have a great time in the morning and you will see Miramar, Vedado, old town and other famous point of interest. You can get off explore and get back on the other bus shortly, they run all day.

Few posters are worried about Irma aftermath, there is nothing to worry about. In Vedado and most of Habana its all good as if Irma never hit. I was there during Irma and again this week.

There are more police activity than before, but don't let that discourage you. They are hanging out by Copellia park and stretch going to Melecon on Calle 23, along the way near Sofia as well. They will never bother you, they will come up to the girls and ask her for her ID.

Guys very important: Please check ID of the girls. Their are lots of under 18 girls there, please say Hi and leave, make sure to check their carnet..

    This and That. I'm Back

Guys very important: Please check ID of the girls. Their are lots of under 18 girls there, please say Hi and leave, make sure to check their carnet. There is NO date of birth section on their ID, this is how you decode: Look at the ID on top section there are series of numbers and the Font Size of the ID numbers are larger than rest of the info on the cards. Their ID number is made up of their date of birth and other numbers. First 4 numbers are their Year of Birth than month and day. If the first four numbers read 0000 than means year 2000 and she is 17 years old. The number must start with 1999 and followed by the month and day.

Cops: They are just there to harass girls and if they have no warrant all they will do is ask her questions and call in their ID's and leave her alone. These cops are monger themselves, and don't like tourist who know and respect Cubans and have money to offer for gifts. These skinny cops will never bother you, I told 3 of them off, because I was talking to a nice girls and 3 stooges show up, and the girl was terrified. I stood my grounds and stared at them and keep approaching others in front of them to show them I was not intimidated and I wasn't doing anything wrong, talking and making friends is not a crime, and didn't leave the area and they finally left. I ran into them again in the evening we both smiled and no issues or harassment afterwards, no matter whom I talked to.

    Anyway. Moving on.

Ramone set the standards so high on his writting, I feel like a kindergarten dropout. .

I than gave her 100 CUC as a gift, she politely refused, and gave me a dirty look as if I was thinking she was a pro. I insisted and tried to shove money in her purse she took it out and placed it back on the table. I thought maybe its not enough. I asked her why? She said I have taken her out to dinner and she had a great time and the bluetooth speaker gift I have given her is token of our friendship. And she said bring a present next time we meet and refused to take any money. Her mother owns a Paladar and she helps her 3 days a week. I asked her to please take a cab back and not walk and she agreed and I went to the cab and gave the cabbie 5 cuc. And tried once more to give her 100 cuc, will not accept, she said something to the taxi driver to drive and left, smiled as she they pulled away. I felt and looked speechless.

I must tell you this girl is amazing, and if you can read between the lines, it wasnt just hand holding. LOL.

Side note: I met few canadian earlier who were there over 150 times to Cuba, when they ran into me and saw her and me walking they were left scratching their head, later in the evening they were very inquisitive as to how I was able to pull her off. And to be honest I am also shocked at this, this tops it all. I had other non pro or semi pro on this trip, but ended giving them money for gift between 30-70 cuc.

I must say this, try to look like a tourist and dress sharp, no flip flops etc. I dress sharp, Cuban women loves sharp dressed men.

Cheers! I will miss Havana, its been crazy being in Havana so many times in the last 2 months.

Ramone, I may go back after 3 or 4 month. I hope to run into you!

I'll be in Havana in a few weeks, it will be interesting to see how much damage Hurricane Irma caused. I know most of Vedado (Tablazo) got flooded, to bad. It's not the first time it's been flooded though, a big storm came through last February or March (can't remember exact date) and flooded all along the Malecon.

Yes Mondo, La Catedral is a descent place to eat. A couple other good places is Dona Juana, great place for lunch - https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUser...ince_Cuba.html.

    And the HM 7 Restaurante.

    Hey MJT,

The St. Johns hotel is literally next door to the Sofia. Just walk in the lobby and take the elevator up to the top floor and then you have to walk up a set of stairs to where the disco / music is. BTW, before you get in the elevator they usually hit you for a $5 cover charge, I say usually cause the 1st time on this trip no one got my 5 CUC before I got in the elevator.

Sometimes there are gals sitting outside between the Sofia & the St. John's, guess it depends on how the cops are putting heat on or not that day.

Hotel Vedado is not having any action that I know of.

When I travel to Cuba, I go not so much for to get lay as much to get a Cubana civie or UTR who is not a "working gal or jinetera" and take her places and have her stay with me and have an amazing GFE experience (Cubana style) Thru the years I've had successes in having this kind of experience with different Cubanas. Guess some of you know what I'm talking about.

Happens this trip I thought I had something lined up for my stay and turns out it never materialized for me the whole time I was there. She works at the university and I was introduced to her last February on my last day in Cuba. As we all know "shit happens" and it did for me this time around. Still hoping for a hook up with her on a future trip.

As far as the most affordable place with plenty of fish in the pond I'd have to say the St. John's is the place. The place gets going after 10 so plan to arrive after that time.

Went to Fantasyx and Mio y Tuyo with another monger from this site and Fantasyx was packed with hotties and Mio y Tuyo was like a ghost town. Be prepared to pay higher fares at this joints after you leave than when coming since these places are out of the way and cabbies know that you have no other choice to get back.
Fabrica del Arte is also a place I'd recommend. It's not so much a club as it's an experience with a different environment and activities. They do have concerts and music but also art displays and other stuff. Lots of civies @ this place on weekends.

Hope you all the best on your travels and please report back, both good and bad experiences so as to keep this thread alive.

I am looking for more off the beaten path options, bars, neighborhoods, etc.

Somebody saiud TABLAZO is a good spot. Is that even true?
The 1 time I had dinner there I hooked up with a blonde name Aniuska for $50. As I was walking out I saw her sitting near by outside the restaurant and just chatted her up. I can't say for certain if there are always chicas outside of Tablazo waiting for potential customers.
