On Thursday morning 9.30 am counted 250+ girls on street, don't know any other place in the world where these many available in the morning.

    Prices at Troya

I have been quoted different prices from different girls. I have consistently got 60 K for 30 minutes at Troya. The most I was ever quoted by a girl there was I believe like 120 K for a half an hour but she was beautiful but had a bad attitude so I passed. I would assume that it is up to the girls because there was never any consistency when the girls first quote me a price. I always bargained down to at least 60 K.

If someone is getting discounts on beer at Troya that's cool. But if you can get 70 k for an hour of sex at Troya, well that's the deal of the century!

Thanks for the info on sim cards. I am going to check out recharging my sim online. I believe my sim is unregistered, so probably a no go on that.

On a separate note, I just bought a new iPhone SE from BestBuy. It's an ATT prepaid phone, and locked for 6 months. Is it true that in Colombia any phone can be unlocked for about 50 mil?

My research is giving me conflicting reports. 80% of the Colombians I talk to say it can be unlocked easily. In Mexico and the DR phones can be easily unlocked as well for about the same price. However, some Colombians like the owner of my Airbnb describe going to "many places in Bogota, and none being able to unlock" their American phones.

I've read that they are only good for 60 days without use. Claro sim's in the DR last 6 mo's, but of course that's a different country. I bought one in Bogota last month, and it worked pretty good. I'll be returning in November, and the gap that I'll have been gone is actually about 65-70 days.
It is good for 60 days, and good for another 60 days from the time of recharge. I think you need to have your sim card registered in order to keep the number valid.

I'm kicking myself because I let my DR Claro SIM dormant for over 6 months and will have to waste time on the ground buying another one.

If you're in doubt, use www dot recharge dot com to add money to your overseas SIM. With Colombian Claro you can refill as little as US $1 at a time.

My last visit to Medellin was December and up til then I had never seen such signage in a hotel. It is very surprising that there are such signs in Bogota at all. In my entire life I have seen only one posted notice against sex tourism at a tourist site in Medellin. Never seen any such thing in any other country. Unnecessary hysterics is what I think as the foreign input in P4P in Colombia is miniscule.

    Bogota Trip Report August 26th

After breakfast I got a hankering for something genuinely touristy. So after a little more exploring downtown I got lunch at a subways then called my cab driver pal because I'd finally resolved to visit Monserrate, the white cathedral on a mountain overlooking the city. Naturally it's a heck of a tourist attraction and I was coming in 10 days before Pope Francis was scheduled to visit the country. I took the Teleferico (cable car) to the cathedral itself, which is over 10,000 feet above sea level. I was still adapting to being in Colombia as it was, but Monserrate gave me a chance to become reacquainted with altitude sickness. Anyway Monserrate was ornate and well decorated inside, had a black madonna and stained glass windows, and was worthy of being a cathedral at the top of a mountain. But it's also a tourist attraction, complete with pastry shop, restaurant and exercise area, so around the side and to the back of the church is an open-air bazaar where I bought some keychains whose theme was "pre-Colombian" AmerIndian culture --a miniature Aztec priest and another being a miniature aztec headdress.

After going through the bazaar and passing the food stands is a path leading to the top of the mountain. The very top is gated off with a huge antannae, but I got as close as I could. Like I said visiting Monserrate is the most touristy thing anyone could do in Bogota, but it was worth it and I recommend it to anyone.

After coming down my driver and I got a quick bite and I got myself a shower and my driver showed me where he lived and introduced me to some of his people. He plied me with more questions about comparisons between Colombia and the US, which seemed to be is favorite subject. After a while we went back to the T-Zone. This time I wanted to visit Pisces, but literally half the club was empty, and the vibe was low so since I'd had such a good time at Troya's we went back. A Venezuelan girl who I'd had my eye on the night before wasn't in sight but before long I was buttonholed by a nice negra from Cali named Alexandra. Round face, awesome figure. We went upstairs for an hour. Took a little doing but she got the job done --albeit not until after hitting me up more than once for an extra 6 mil. She and I went at it, then in the end she reverse-cowgirl'd me to a happy ending.

As I was coming down the stairs from my session my driver was coming up the stairs with a female. I made the rounds on the floor and saw some contenders and while I knew it was too soon for me to go again I most interested in satisfying my need for excess. Then I saw the "Venezuelan" I'd been looking for, she said her name was Erica, and I wanted to cross her off the list. Upon questioning she told me she wasn't a Venezuelan at all, rather a Colombiana. Not sure how I got mixed up on that one.

Despite my, and her, best efforts there was lots of hammering, but no leche. I was proud of my effort, but had to face facts that I'd asked a tad too much of Kent Jr too soon. I'd tried to schedule some appointments with some of the girls outside of the club, but they all gave the same inflated figure 250 k. Reminded me of the puta mafia in Jaco. I didn't even need my driver to tell me that was a no-go. I had one more day in the city and was curious about how worthwhile the girls standing in the doorways might be, so made a mental note to try one the next day.

The altitude fatigue and sessions had left me bone tired, so when I went to bed I was out like a light.

    Sunday, August 27th.

Woke up, got a slice of pizza from a street vendor breakfast and then dozed off again. I realized that I would be flying out to Medellin the very next day and hadn't done my laundry. Being Sunday in a Catholic country I feared the place would be largely shut down and it was. I called my driver and he said he'd try to help. After visiting a couple of places that were closed we finally found one that was open for a few more hours- Easy Lavanderia. The cost was pricey for a load, 22 k, but they were the only game in town. After taking my clothes back to my habitacion and packing them we went back to the old standby, Zona-T.

Tryoa's was played out, and Pisces was dead --for the record the girls said 120 k for 30 minutes. I passed. Too many girls who are as pretty (and much prettier) to pay that.

Then I remembered that I wanted to try some street meat. Walked around the block and spied a buxom mature chick who called herself Gina. She had an easy smile and wore yoga pants and a barely-there spaghetti strap top with huge implants. 2 hours for 150 mil. I probably could have negotiated her down, but I wasn't in the mood to haggle so I agreed. Just behind where she stood were the rooms. Speaking of which the room was cold, but I had been briefed on what to expect and knew that you had to provide your own heat. Strangely the room had a TV in it playing porn of course. They could have kept the TV, how about a space heater and some towels!

Gina got naked and while her body had some miles on it she made it a point to flirt and be extra playful. The older Colombianas tend to try to make up for their lack of youth with an abundance of friendliness. Works for me.

I got my first leche in missionary, and after a brief siesta and some more horizontal tango Gina wound up finishing me manually. Hey a win's a win.

I said good night to my driver and told him I'd be staying in touch. Hopefully next time I would carve out more time to chat with his folks and associates and hopefully make more friends. He offered that if I ever needed a place to crash while in Medellin I was welcome at his place.

I went home to sleep and get ready for my morning flight to Medellin where I'd start off by staying at the Mansion (M1) for a couple of nights. In closing Bogota turned out to be a really great trip, though again, it's always best to cultivate local contacts, and it's mandatory for folks who speak little Spanish --I wouldn't visit Colombia at all if you speak zero-Spanish. I will definitely visit again, though this time I would make sure that my accomodations are definitely guest friendly. I passed many a hotel both in Bogota and Medellin and most of them had some sort of signage up saying they don't allow sex tourism, and around town you frequently see signs regarding child exploitation and the like. Seems somebody is concerned Colombia may get a reputation and they want to push back against that publicly. Considering their how long and ghastly the drug wars were there it's understandable.

Sorry for not having pics, but that's another thing. Maybe it's just me but seemed the girls were very averse to pictures. Almost like they were working from a script they all said the same thing, they were terrified of being put up on the internet, or they had some horror story about an amiga who got exposed by some careless dude online. I wanted to insist on more than one occasion, but then I always thought about how that might seem to them. Perhaps if I had gotten a girl back to my rental they would have been more open to it, but alas. As it is Colombia made a good first impression.

From here it was on to Medellin for a week. Will be posting that part soon.

    Hey guys,

Will be in Bogota for a 17 hour layover Oct 17th. Planning to stay at Sheraton Four Points which looks like it should be chica friendly if it's not please let me know. Viaggio nueve trez was another option.

Probably will just go to Juan Pablo Zhivago since I'm solo and good reviews. Any advice would be appreciated. I plan to post trip report afterwards. Going to Guatemala, curacao, and panama as well that same week.

    Bogota Trip Report August 24 & 25

Sorry for having put this off so long. I had been wanting to visit Mexico and Colombia and rarely does life allow you to kill two birds with one stone but airfares direct from the US to Colombia are sky high unless you live in Miami or Houston. So I found it was significantly less to fly a domestic carrier to Mexico City and spend a day there, and then take Avianca to Bogota. I already posted my Mexico City (CDMX) TR in that forum, so this one takes up where that one left off. For the record I speak only a little Spanish, (I would describe myself as barely conversational) and it's true that if you speak no Spanish at all it will be VERY rough going in Colombia. This isn't Costa Rica: Bogota is huge, and there's no expat community to establish a cultural / linguistic beachhead for foreigners. And although I eventually enjoyed myself a lot Colombia doesn't lend itself to non Spanish speakers.

    Thursday August 24th.

My flight from CDMX to Bogota got me there that afternoon and after clearing Customs in Bogota I got a taxi from one of the "official" taxi vendors, $20 to take me to my accommodations. He summoned the actual driver, in this case a young, tall, slim blanca with skin-tight pants that had the sides missing, with only criss-cross strands to hold them together. Frankly she looked like she was trying to drum up some different business of her own. I like cool weather so Bogota's climate agreed with me perfectly.

My driver took me to my Air be&be rental where I got situated and afterwards I offered her another 20 to be my tour guide for a couple of hours. There would be no action but it was nice to have something pretty to look at and talk to to orient me. She helped me get a SIM card and then drove me downtown where we spent a while rolling around, she pointing out the government offices. From there I wanted to go on foot, so she parked and offered to find me a place to eat. I got several stares from the locals, and one guy who was walking in front of me made a point to look over his shoulder with this sh! T-eating grin on his face. I blame my young, tall, leggy driver whose tight pants looked like she'd bought them on sale at Hooker-Mart.

I'm not really a food aficionado so I didn't take note of where I ate. I only remember that my driver took me this one place where they had a plate of chicken breasts, fries and rice for $4 and it tasted okay.

By this point it was getting on dark and while I could have stood to find some female company I instead allowed my lack of familiarity with the area or my rental buildings' guest policy to be my excuse to not go mongering that day. I looked at some of the monger maps, played around on PhotoPrepagos and MilEroticos but kept talking myself out of doing anything.

    Friday August 25th.

I had been anticipating my Colombia trip for a while and was good and mad at myself for having blown what could have at least been a productive first night there. This was good because it helped me focus and stop procrastinating. My advice to any limited Spanish visitor to Colombia like myself would be to either arrange for a driver who is willing to be your wing in advance or at the very least do like I did and make it a point to find one and don't be afraid to be picky. You're in a foreign country where you don't know anyone, but more than that you're trying to cultivate a relationship. You will be spending a lot of time around this person. So it's important that you hit it off.

My wingman hunt was conducted right outside my building. A few of the taxis would camp out in the area waiting for a fare to come along. First guy I approached was either having a bad day or my pidgin Spanish displeased him, I don't know. Either way he seemed annoyed. I decided to pass. My Spanish wasn't improving in four days so might as well move on to someone else.

Next I came upon a bookish-looking fellow who seemed about my age. He seemed to understand my kindergarten-level Spanish well enough. I asked him his hourly rate, he said 20 mil. Took a few minutes of talking but the vibe was good, and we seemed to be on the same wavelength. I didn't realize it at that moment but I'd met my first real friend in the city.

Told him I wanted to go to Tantra Spa. He said it was in north of the city and that he didn't mind taking me but that there was action much closer by and had more action in a more compact area. Well, I insisted on going to Tantra Spa anyway. When we got there the place was closed. My driver took me to another place in the vicinity that had black wrought-iron bars and that inside was a single stripper catwalk and pole. The price for an hour with a girl was far too much but it showed how overly-eager I was to be able to cross my first Bogota session off the checklist. It was well after dark by now but my wingman let me know as long as I was paying he was staying.

I took my driver's advice and we went back to my side of town and then a hop skip and a jump to the Zona Tolerencia (at least I'm fairly sure that's where it was, feel free to correct me) all the while back he was peppering me with questions about how Bogota stacked up to the US and the occasional English translation of this or that Spanish word.

About the T-Zone, to a first timer it kind of felt like a cross between Amsterdam, Guadalajara and New York in the 1970's. The occasional stench of weed smoke wafting through the air, girls standing in the entrances of buildings, some wearing bikini tops in 63-degree night time weather, folks shouting out in Spanish with the occasional English speaker heard here and there. All the while people are honking their horns. I saw on one block an older woman with what I take to be her kids, seemed like they were trying to get her to buy them something. That bothered me, to see kids in a part of town like that. That was the only such scene I witnessed. Though it did nothing to ruin my mood or deter me. My driver parked the taxi in a garage and we walked up and down a couple of blocks. As we walked the streets people tried to sell me Viagra, candy, trinkets, cell phone minutes whatsoever --regular Latin America. Every strip club / brothel we passed guys outside would beckon us to stop our search for poon at their place, but my driver told me to keep it moving. That night (and the two others to follow) my driver made it a point to advise me on what was too much to be paying, and steered me towards locals pricing.

Finally we came to Troya's. I paid the 5 mil for a beer for my driver while I got water for myself.

The place was packed, the girl to guy ratio was good, the girls were mostly in their 20's and Colombia was as advertised: seemed most had visited the plastic surgeon for a boob job. I like Colombianas and it's because of their body type. I don't like fat chicks and won't take a flaca. I want a fit, voluptuous hour-glass. They had a couple of flacas there, but that night only saw one who seemed too chubby to belong there, the rest were my type. 70 mil for an hour to session with the girl on-site, though I do believe there was a small fee for the room.

My driver helped me get the lay of the land and seemed to take a genuine vicarious interest in making sure I found something for the hour. I saw Luisa, a 33 year-old mulatta who looks like a young Wanda de Jesus but with a leaner face. Really fit, though her figure was a smidge lean to be perfect for my tastes but nothing that would be a dealbreaker. We went upstairs, got a room and though my tool was a bit worn from the other session 90 minutes or so earlier, Luisa persevered for an hour until she struck leche. My second Bogota notch on the belt. My driver (who had also been having his fun with a girl while I was busy) and I walked a little more, got some fast food from a shop vendor and from there dropped me off at my rental. My driver gave me his number and told me to call him when I was ready to head out again.

Just goes to show how quickly a trip can go from sour to sweet, and all in the span of a few hours. My Bogota trip was off to a good start.

Getting your bearings in a new place is never easy, but for a first-timer with little Spanish I got over my initial jitters, and I would recommend to anyone like me to make if a priority to avail yourself of a local as a wingman. If you try to get a taxi driver like I did and rent him by the hour that's fine, it worked wonderfully for me, because my driver is a good and trusted friend now. But again, I also implore you to be super picky about choosing one, make sure this is a person you gel with. For your safety, but also because this person will be an important contact for you and can make things a LOT easier.

    More to come.
