I also agree that staying in an apartment is less expensive but I am always worried about hiding belonging especially cash when you are on such a short trip. So either pay the girl's room of 1, 300 DH or bribe around for about 6-800 DH. I thought it was a no brainer with over 500 DH savings per night but I guess I am still learning and I over paid.

Tried 'Hotel El Hamra'. We agreed for 2 rooms. When the receptionist hears that one of us was Moroccan, he consulted his colleague and the other said 'We are expecting a football group who took the whole Hotel, sorry'. What a ridiculer excuse.

Nightmare of travelling in Morocco with a local girl and finding a Hotel

I have a girl in Tanger (Tangier) which I have to visit once a while, Ryanair makes it possible.

A skinny 23 years old young Sweety working in a factory, unfortunately she is not good in languages and her main sentences are 'Comme tu veu- as you like' and 'Je ne sais pas- I don't know'. Anyhow, we headed to Marrakech as she never visited this town. I opted for the night train a sleeper. The man at the ticket counters asked:

'Why don't U take 4 tickets and U have the whole compartment for your own? '

'We are two and She is from Morocco, no problem? ' I asked?

'No problem' he replied.

I paid 1400 Dirham with a 50 Dh extra for his nice recommendation. Our journey started nicely. Romantic views through the window, moon and stars ahead, the coast rushing by. Holding hands, some little more, but not too much as the apartment could not be locked (of course).

I remembered a traveler hotel 'La Toulousian' in Marrakech and I had thought that's a place to start to get our 2 rooms. Once I hear that if a girl has its I'd card with a residence in another town, she has a right to be accommodated. Well far off. The receptionist's face got hard when he saw us and denied my request for 2 rooms:

'Nous sommes tous complet – We are fully booked! '

'Up to when? ' I asked back.

'All the time', I asked him to sit down my girl with our luggage, he reluctantly admitted. I continued the streets and arrived a large complex 'Boston Hotel' but no entrance was visible. I approached a man with greasy face pushing his MOTOBECANE moto, he instantly explained he is a teacher in the building next. He was delighted to have a conversation with me.

'Noisy nightclub downstairs, and some other things also! ' he replied. 'Are you alone? ' he continued.

'La femme Maroccaine, see'est la mort- Woman from Morocco means Death! The worse on earth. You are crazy! ' he threatened. I left him quickly after revealing this unpleasant message. Actually there was no entrance for the hotel because it was closed.

Continued the 'Hotel Franco-Belge'. A simple place I stayed some years before. The hotel did not exist anymore, trucks for a new construction were busy coming and going at this place.

I arrived at 'Hotel de Voyageur', a simple place I stayed before too. Its run by an old and religious lady, but she knew me. That's what is counting in Maroc. A receptionist said yes he has 2 rooms. 170DH each. When he saw the I'd card I presented, he changed his mind and said he has to ask permission from the owner, but she is not here'.

My bad mood started to get worse, I got even the idea to take the night train back to Tanger were we had our apartment. I continued to a lousy place called 'Hotel Oasis'. A sleepy guy showed me the apartment like rooms. 350Dh each. When he saw the I'd from my girl he changed his mind, 'You better go to a Hotel! '

I arrived at a more expensive Hotel. Two girls with a veil (Hijaab) worked at the reception. Two rooms à 500DA were available and when I presented the girls I'd card, the receptionist did not pose any question. I got the room on the 4th floor. The other room was 1st floor. I asked for a room at the same floor? 'We don't have'. For a little second I got suspicious, but I got accommodation, that what counted. I fetched my girl, she was worried I let her alone for more than an hour at the 1st place. We checked in, an unpleasant room boy (well he was already about 60 years old) spoke to her in Arabic. Later she told me he told her never to come to my room on 4th floor. Later I knocked at my girls room, the unpleasant room boy instantly approached and watched me talking to my girl at her door. Forget it.

In the afternoon I passed the railway station to find our tickets back for next evening! Let's leave this impossible place. Just for curiosity I asked at another reception of a Hotel nearby the station, A clean modern new Hotel. I stayed in this Hotel for a night before. I explained the case, our bad experience in the hotel. He laughs, not in our place, you check in, you get rooms in same floor, you can do whatever you want. 800DH per room, yes we have two last rooms left. This idea inspired me. What to do with the train tickets I already bought? I needed some time to think about it. I took my cute girl and we showed up at the reception to book. Ups weekend, the last room was gone. He asked for my fon number, to call me if there is any cancellation of room? Of course he did not call. But still the last event was at least kind of refreshing after all this bullshit.

Some curious thing at night: We visit 'Monte Cristo' a sophisticated lounge and bar with Life Band Music and events over several floors and expensive looking girls and elder men. I was looking for the toilet? Hmm, saw only women in the toilet. 'Yes', one of the employees said, we have common toilets only. Tender massage, no door to close on room, means extras are forbidden.

Latest taxi scam: extorsion.

There is a new scam going on with taxis in Marrakech. The taxis outside Montecristo, African Chic, Silver and Paradise will take you and the girl, but once they get to your apartment they'll demand 200dh or threaten to call the police (extorsion basically). Another reason NEVER to take a taxi with a girl. This is totally avoidable by not putting yourself into this situation. Take separate taxis, but don't be obvious about it (taking two taxis travelling in a convoy from right outside the club at 3am is totally obvious to the police and anyone else that sees you doing it). Take a taxi home, and give the girl your address so she can take a taxi she trusts 5-10minutes later. The price for a taxi at night should be 20dh, which you can get if you flag down a taxi on a main road away from all of the theives waiting outside the clubs. The most I ever pay is 30dh if there are 3 guys. Another good idea is if you find a taxi that doesn't cheat you and takes you somewhere at night for 20/30dh, get their telephone number and later call them to pick you up (you'll pay a bit more, maybe 40dh or so at night then). From the airport to the city, the official (and already twice the meter fare) is 70dh to Gueliz / Old Town, and 100dh at night. It's best to walk across the car park and take a taxi from near the roundabout rather than deal with the group of theives that are waiting together to ambush you as you come out of the terminal (don't be scared, just ignore them and walk across the car park to find a taxi somewhere else). There is also an airport bus, which if you are alone can save you a lot of money and hastle (it costs only 30dh).

Tips for choosing a girl:

When choosing a girl it's best to be patient and watch carefully both how she behaves with you and with other people. Pay a lot of attention to the expression on her face and watch the signals she makes to other girls. Even if I'm paying, I like to only deal with girls that are excited about the idea of sleeping with me. By now I can normally tell. It's written on her face and in the way she interacts with me. If I touch her and she moves away. Bad sign. If she keeps looking around the room while I'm talking to her, walks away to talk to someone else, is impatient, rude or unfriendly at any point or won't go with me for a bit less than her normal price etc then I know she's not worthwhile. Sex isn't any fun with someone that just wants to get it over with as quickly as possible. The type of girls I like are the one's that make eye contact, that remember who I am the second time I see them and want to talk to me even if I didn't take them home last time, etc. You have to also watch the way they interact with other pople, and notice if they treat everyone the same or if they treat you differently. Notice where they are looking, who are they looking at and what's the expression on their face, as well as how much effort they put into the conversation. Tell them no or offer a very low price and see how they react to that. Do they become rude, cold, or agressive (which is perhaps their true nature)? You can always come back later, as long as you take their number. Notice who they are with and how their friends behave. That will also give you a clue as to the kind of person they are. Look up and learn to recognise the " facial expression for contempt" as well as "disgust" and if you see either of those on a girls face. Ditch her! Every time I've had trouble with girls it's been with girls that had this expression on their face at some point during our first conversation (since I started paying attention to these things I've had no trouble with girls at all).

Don't just look at the girls. Look at the other customers as well, and notice how the girls look at them. That way you can see what they're looking for. I've come to realise that extremely low intelligence is also a warning sign for potential trouble. Hos are generally not the smartest people you'll come across in life and they tend to be fairly dumb whilst thinking that they are very clever, but think about this: the type of people that steal and are dishonest can make a lot of money in the short time (tonight) , but in the long time all of the crazy and stupid one's I've known have ended up getting arrested and beaten up by the police, hurt by unhappy customers, and either driven out of town or put into jail. At the very least they won't get any return business (which is safer for them, and they don't have to invest in going out and spending money on taxis, drinks etc whilst risking coming home empty handed) and they won't get any tips or favours or guys wanting to take them travelling. So if you can find a girl that is at least relatively intelligent (I. E. If it almost feels like talking a normal person) then she is likely to know this and not be pulling all of these stupid moves which in the long term are going to end badly for her.

If they say "buy me a drink / cigarettes / laptop computer" etc just say "I don't have any money with me", and if they go away at that point then good riddance. Some of them earn 2000dh / night, so they can pay for their own drinks. Hos almost always come in pairs, so if you do want to take one back you first need to ditch the "cousin" or "sister" or whatever she's pretending to be. The way I do this is by saying that the security at my apartment only won't let more than one girl in. Ask to see their I'd card to check if they are underage (really you want to see if they have one, and you want to know their real name and not the fake they give out so that if they do rob someone the guy can't find them (Sara and Fatima Zara are the most common). Take a photo with your phone of the I'd card and whatsapp it to a friend and let them know that you're doing this "as a precaution". All of this makes them much less likely to try to rob you or cause a scene because it puts them in a weaker situation and they realise that robbing you could have consequences. You can also give a warning of the type "this is how much I will pay, I don't have any more money and if you cause any trouble I'll just call my friends and they'll make sure you end up in jail. I'm warning you now, because you really don't want to meet my friends".

No-one should be scared to come to Marrakech. The girls here really are some of the most beautiful in the world and they can be a lot of fun. But everyone should be cautious, make sure you know about the scams and take steps to avoid them (mainly knowing where not to go and who not to trust). The security and front desk people earn aroun 1200Dh-2400Dh a month so a 200 Dh bribe is more than adequate.

I recommend putting 95% of your loot in your sock / shoe and keeping 4x100 Dirham notes in either pocket. Then when confronted show you only have a little money.

Marrakech nightlife:

African Chic. Good from midnight until 2am, free entry, some very pretty girls but be careful as most of them are theives (they'll scam you for drinks, refuse to give their number and perhaps either tip off the police or take your money and refuse to put out). This place is fun for warming up, having a drink and getting some numbers (those that aren't just scammers will give them to you) but extreme caution is advised.

Montecristo. Good from 11pm to 3am, free entry, very beautiful but expensive girls.

Teatro. The best disco, good from 1am to 5am, entrance 200dh, free for girls on ladies night (Tuesday and Wednesday).

Silver. Smaller than Teatro and nearby, also 200dh.

Paradise. Full of hard core pros, entrance 200-250dh depending on day, don't go before 2:30am otherwise you'll be one of the only 3 people there (and the other two will be guys).

Taxis.

The correct prices are: 10dh during the day. 20dh at night. Anyone that asks for more than that is ripping you off. The taxis waiting outside the airport and outside nightclubs will rip you off and ask for at least double that. I've heard of people paying 50, 100 or even 200dh for a journey that should cost 20dh. It's far better to walk a bit to the main road and flag down a taxi that is passing (anyone that is stopped and hanging around outside a certain location is bad news) than deal with the scrum of theives outside the clubs. If you want to go somewhere at night with a girl, don't take the same taxi because the police might stop you and want a bribe (don't panic. 100-200dh is the going rate).

To pay this kind of money does not make sense. I have paid no more than 100 DH only one time to security for the whole visit. Never paid more than 1000 DH to a girl. More like 500. 750 DH. But I have not been to Tangier. Must be expensive and I'll avoid it.

Wrong. Tanger is not that expensive. In fact, much less expensive than marrakech (the real tourist hole). But if people go throwing money around like that, and the hustlers of tanger get the hang of it, someday it will be more expensive than Dubai! Although that 555 is bad news, I've been there a few times, the 555 is only good for clubbing. Actually, that 555 is a rip-off joint, you belive a small bottle of mineral water costs 100 DHs there? :P much more than in any disco in france! There are much better ways to get girls for 500/700 DH max a night in tanger than to get them from the 555. Plus, I never got envolved with hotels in morocco, the whole thing seems like a nightmare the way I see it. I always use apartments, and the apartments should always be in descrete places.
